Giving Back to Indianapolis: 2014 Service Days at iTech Digital

In November, we introduced Service Days as part of a culture enhancement initiative at iTech Digital. Service Days provide an opportunity for team members and their family members to serve Indianapolis charities and non-profits while boosting iTech Digital’s team morale and camaraderie. Separate from PTO, these days are paid for by the company and allow employees to take a half or full day off of work to serve others and make an impact in the community. For the initial roll out of Service Days, iTech Digital team members were given the opportunity to serve Wheeler Mission and Fair Haven Foundation this holiday season.

iTech Digital at Wheeler Mission

On December 2, team members served at Wheeler Mission by sorting, organizing, and cleaning donations for the Wheeler Mission Thrift Store and Distribution Center. Located in downtown Indianapolis, Wheeler provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy. The Thrift Store helps fund vital ministry programs and offers training and work opportunities for program participants.

“The iTech Digital volunteers were instrumental in getting our store set up for Christmas,” said Pam Eversole, Volunteer Coordinator for Wheeler Mission.  “They did a great job and had such a great helping attitude while they were here. We were so grateful for their service.  They certainly improved the store while they were here.”

iTech Digital at Fair Haven Foundation

On December 11 and 12, team members served Fair Haven Foundation by setting up and decorating Christmas trees and providing homemade baked goods to patients staying in Fair Haven housing during the holidays. Fair Haven provides free housing, or “a home away from home,” for patients and their families undergoing cancer, organ transplant and high risk pregnancy treatment at IU Health University Hospital and IUH Simon Cancer Center. Since 2008, Fair Haven has provided more than 9,000 nights of lodging to over 300 patients and their families.

The service project was a success. “We so appreciate the iTech Digital team taking time away from work to serve our patients and families,” said Amanda Milner, Executive Director for Fair Haven.  “Fair Haven thanks you for making Christmas a little brighter by decorating trees and providing delicious treats to our guests.”

We are pleased with the participation and success of our 2014 Service Days and  look forward to serving more Indianapolis organizations in 2015.
